Dodge isn't killing off the Avenger name. Instead, it's going to be put on a small RWD-based sedan that is rumored to look like a mini charger. It will use either the 3.6 Pentastar or 2.4 Tigershark engines coupled to the 8-speed torqueflite transmission. It's going to ride on an all new platform called the SX platform. I think that this car is gonna be a real competitor in the mid-sized segment. Rumored starting price? Around $19k.

The worst part, is that parts of this have been real rumors over the last year or so.

In other news, Dodge will still be in business 7 years from now.

I'm not sure of the 8-speed or platform name, but the Avenger is rumored to go RWD after the refresh.

I'm sorry! It pained me to write it! Dreams of cheap RWD seadans will just remain dreams.

I thought it was being killed all together to make room for the Dart?

Last I heard it was still on the table. It'd be a different platform than the Dart/200, so maybe built at a different plant. I guess it could also take a different name by the time the small RWD car is revealed, but it's currently being referred to as the Avenger and unrelated to the 200.

Are there even any cheap RWD sedans on the market right now?

I can't think of any.
